The Maine Gun Safety Coalition has created a Safe Schools, Safe Communities initiative for a referendum to create a Red Flag - or Extreme Risk Protection Order - in Maine.  Such a law would allow families to go directly to court to ask that guns in the household be temporarily removed due to concern about loved ones who could be a danger to themselves or others. 20 other states have such a law.  Currently Maine has a unique but cumbersome Yellow Flag Law that requires a number of steps before temporarily removing guns from a household at extreme risk.

New Brackett church family will be formally asked to support such an initiative at the assembly, as well as sign up to help gather petition signatures on Election Day.
